Hyundai Hybrid Breaks Land Speed Record

Wednesday, November 16th, 2016

Hyundai Ioniq

The record for the fastest hybrid on earth has been shattered. A modified Hyundai Ioniq was clocked at 157.825 mph, the fastest a hybrid has ever traveled on land.

To achieve this impressive feat, engineers at Hyundai made notable changes to the newest Hyundai hybrid. The largest change was the addition of nitrous-oxide, which allowed a huge boost of power. The team also removed the air-conditioning. While this may seem insignificant, the record was set at Bonneville Salt Flats, which is in the middle of the desert. We hope the driver was not too hot during the monumental run.

Engineers at Hyundai really wanted to demonstrate their dedication to pushing the limit with hybrids. It also shows the durability and versatility of Hyundai vehicles. We are thrilled to see what Hyundai will come up with next!

2017 Hyundai Ioniq Model Lineup Makes U.S. Debut At New York International Auto Show

When an automaker introduces a new electric vehicle, it can be something to awe at, but what makes Hyundai’s Ioniq launch even bigger news is that it released three different electric variants on a single platform – that isn’t something that happens every day. 2017 Hyundai Ioniq has been launched in three variants at the recent New York Auto Show:

  • The first is a conventional Ioniq electric-gas hybrid model, loaded with a 104hp 1.6L gasoline engine paired to a 43hp electric motor and 1.56kWh battery. In spite of small battery, there’s a driving mode that’s purely electric.
  • The second is the Ioniq plug-in hybrid that depends on the same gasoline engine as the first, though it has a more powerful 60hp electric motor and larger battery (8.9kWh). The plug-in as well as hybrid models depend on a dual-clutch gearbox to transmit power to the wheels at the front.
  • Finally, there’s the Ioniq Electric, which ditches the gasoline engine for a 120hp electric motor and a 28kWh battery. Estimates indicate that the driving range is 110 miles.

The brand’s approach for the new range of Ioniq models gives an uncompromising driving and design experience paired with the latest in convenience and safety technologies, proving to be an appealing option for an extensive range of buyers.

With an outstanding design, powertrain flexibility, connectivity, advanced technologies, and design, the Ioniq is the right choice to meet the requirements of a growing and large group of buyers looking for low-emissions, highly efficient without any kind of compromise on their daily lifestyle.

Await the launch of the new Ioniq range on the floors of CardinaleWay Hyundai.

Hyundai 2

During the New York International Auto Show held on March 23rd 2016, Hyundai unveiled its Ioniq model lineup cars. The eco-focused Ionic offers 3 distinct powertrains (electrified) on one dedicated vehicle platform. The Ioniq Hybrid, the Plug-in Hybrid, and the Electronic models. The Ioniq line is distinct in its uncompromising design and driving experience. All the 3 are integrated with the latest in convenience and safety technologies. The introduction of the Ioniq models in the United States market has marked another important milestone in Hyundai’s global sustainability strategy.

According to Mike O’Brien, VP of Hyundai Motor America (Corporate and Product Planning), Ioniq will cater to the needs of people who are looking for eco-friendly vehicles that are efficient, but does not compromise on style. All the Ioniq models have an aerodynamic silhouette. State-of-the-art connectivity features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay help to enhance the driving experience. The models also feature a wireless charger for smartphones. Both the Hybrid and Plug-in models are fitted with a new Kappa 1.6 direct-injected Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine. It has a thermal efficiency of 40%. It is specifically tailored to the hybrid application. The engine delivers an estimated 104 horsepower and 109 pound-feet torque. The electric motor for the electric model delivers around 32 kW. It is powered by a lithium-ion polymer battery with 1.56 kWh capacity.

Some of the other features include:

  • 6-speed dual-clutch transmission
  • Batteries that are technologically advanced
  • Smart air conditioning
  • Innovatively used recycled/ecologically-sensitive materials
