2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid : Go Green at Hyundai of Corona

The 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is the fuel-efficient counterpart to the  standard Sonata sedan at CardinaleWay Hyundai in Corona, CA. It delivers a long list of standard features, the same smooth ride plus a comfortable and spacious interior.  The Sonata Hybrid takes fuel efficiency further than its Sonata counterpart with a hybrid powertrain rated for 40-plus mpg. This Sonata model is a well-rounded and affordable hybrid sedan.

The Sonata Hybrid Overview

The 2017 model is the second year of the new generation Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. This vehicle features a roomier interior and more traditional styling of the recently redesigned regular Sonata and has a sturdy platform. This model boasts an environmentally friendly, new hybrid powertrain for enhanced fuel economy. Hyundai includes a long list of features with this year’s model, including a new 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen display standard on all models plus audio, entertainment and telematics upgrades. There is also an optional 8-inch touchscreen available.

Fantastic Fuel Economy

The Sonata Hybrid’s primary appeal is its fantastic fuel economy. Design features to reduce the Sonata Hybrid’s fuel consumption include active air shutters behind the grille, special alloy wheels and a streamlined tail.  These changes enable the base Sonata Hybrid SE to return an EPA-estimated 42 mpg. The Sonata Hybrid provides you with the same sought-after advantages of the standard Sonata including a roomy interior, a smooth ride plus a green-car solid value. The cargo space is generous in this hybrid, a feature that usually forgoes the trunk area to accommodate battery packaging.

Looking for Great Fuel Economy? Try the 2016 Hyundai Tucson Compact Crossover Eco Model

Hyundai Tuscon 2017

The Eco offers a fuel-economy advantage over the other Tucson compacts in Hyundai’s lineup. The all-wheel-drive Eco is nearly 200 pounds lighter than the Tucson Limited. Its smaller 17-inch wheels and tires offer less rolling resistance than the 19-inch wheels on the higher trim Sport and Limited models. The lighter weight and lower rolling resistance results in the highest EPA fuel-economy estimates in the Tucson lineup. In front-drive, the Eco is rated at 26 mpg city and 33 mpg highway; with all-wheel drive, it gets 25/31 mpg. These numbers are 2 to 5 mpg better than the SE and 1 to 3 mpg better than those of the Sport and Limited with the same powertrain.

The #2016TucsonEco uses the upper-end 175-hp 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The base SE has a 164-hp 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic.

The lighter weight also means the Eco accelerates quickly and corners better than the heavier models. The ride is comfortable and quiet. The interior is spacious with plenty of room to stretch out in the back seat. The cargo area doesn’t have any obstructions, which makes it very useful.

The Eco is also the least expensive and most efficient Tucson available. It’s a great value for the money.

Taking A Look At The Hyundai Genesis Over The Long Term

2016 Genesis

The fuel economy and mileage of the Hyundai Genesis is quite respectable. The EPA had estimated it to be 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highways. The car did an average of 23 mpg. There were stretches of empty highways where the Genesis managed to touch 30 mpg.

The performance of the engine at the end of 100,000 miles was almost similar to what it was at 2,000 miles. It peaked from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds. The final braking performance was a bit slow. It traveled 175 feet before coming to a stop from 70 mph. The cold weather may have been responsible for this. The response of the automatic transmission was a bit inconsistent.

In the interior of the car, the seat cushions reflected some wear and tear. You could hear the wind whistle through the sunroof. There was a squeak from the dash too. These are all quite common for a car that has been on the road for so long and covered so many miles in varying road and weather conditions.

Other than these faults, the Genesis proved to be quite durable and reliable even after traveling those extra 20,000 miles. The structure of the car has remained tight and intact. The Genesis’ achievements are respectable.

More interesting facts about the long term test mileage of the Hyundai Genesis are available at the CardinaleWay Hyundai showroom at Corona. Or you can visit their website for more related information.

Hyundai’s Santa Fe – Performance Features

2017-hyundai-lwb-ext-10-circuit-silver

The Santa Fe is Hyundai’s three-row, crossover SUV and it comes in two trim levels – SE and Limited. You may have also heard of the Santa Fe Sport, but that is in a different segment since it is a smaller, five-seater, two-row SUV.

The Santa Fe comes equipped with a 3.3-liter V-6 engine that generates 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated with a standard six-speed automatic transmission with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The V-6 direct fuel injection engine is strong and is capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. The ride it provides is smooth and easy.

The EPA’-estimated fuel economy ratings are 21 mpg combined (18 city/25 highway) for the front-wheel-drive model and 20 mpg combined (18 city/24 highway) with all-wheel drive. There is an ‘Ultimate’ package available for both trims which makes the vehicle slightly heavier. So, vehicles equipped with this package have a lower fuel economy rate, lower by 1-2 mpg. The direct injection engine makes it more fuel efficient than otherwise.

The all-wheel drive Santa Fe Limited with the Ultimate package is capable of going from zero to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds. All in all, the Santa Fe’s performance is quite decent, especially since it is one of the least expensive vehicles in its segment.

Visit CardinaleWay Hyundai if you would like to test-drive the Hyundai Santa Fe.

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Performance Specs

2016-hyundai-sonata-hybrid-ext-13-LED-tail-lights-download

2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is powered by a newly designed 2L 4-cylinder engine. It uses regular gasoline to run and provides GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) for efficient and smooth acceleration. The efficient cruising results in improved fuel economy. The engine is integrated with an electric motor. It generates a power of 193 horsepower. The car features a 6-speed automatic transmission. Energy generated from regenerative braking is stored in a lithium-ion battery pack mounted in the trunk. The EPA-estimated fuel economy for the SE is 40 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway, 42 mpg combined. For the Limited, it is 39 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway, 41 mpg combined.

The lithium-ion battery used by the new Sonata Hybrid is one of the most efficient batteries available in the market today. It uses a polymer gel as the electrolyte. This allows for a lighter and thinner casing. It means more interior volume. The battery discharge is also much slower than other batteries, in order to maintain the available power for a long time. Sonata Hybrid uses a fully integrated HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) system. It helps to provide optimum power. The car switches seamlessly between electric mode and gasoline mode in order to deliver power efficiently. Primary charge energy is delivered to the lithium battery by the gasoline engine. Supplemental energy is delivered via regenerative braking system.

Sonata Hybrid features DMS (Drive Mode Select). You have the option to choose from 3 modes. Sport, Normal or Eco. DMS adjusts the transmission, steering calibration, and the engine to optimize your driving style.

Visit Hyundai of Corona to check out the new Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.
